Office pod acoustics: compare speech privacy
Understand what an acoustic result measures before comparing “soundproof” office pods. Whole-pod speech performance, room conditions and installation all affect the experience.
Speech reduction is not complete silence
A pod can reduce the sound of conversation reaching the surrounding workplace. It will not remove every sound, and speech results do not describe all noise frequencies equally. Loud voices, low-frequency noise and a very quiet surrounding room can change how noticeable sound remains.
Compare like-for-like test reports
Ask which complete model was tested, which standard was used and which result is reported. ISO 23351-1 addresses speech-level reduction for furniture enclosures. A wall-panel rating, material absorption result or an unqualified decibel claim is not the same measurement. Request the report applicable to the selected pod.
Placement matters
Consider nearby desks, hard reflective surfaces, circulation and other noise sources. Correct assembly and well-seated seals matter. For confidential legal, medical or personnel conversations, have the actual installed environment assessed against your organisation’s requirements; an acoustic pod alone does not establish compliance.
